Visiting Charleston this Winter? 5 Events You Won’t Want to Miss!

eventsCharleston, SC has been experiencing a mild winter, to say the least. With daytime temperatures averaging around 70 degrees, it’s no surprise that visitors and locals alike are out and about making the most of the beautiful weather. Now that the holidays (and restaurant week) are past us, it’s time to set our sights onto what the rest of the winter has to offer. See below the top five goings on that, in our opinion, shouldn’t be missed.

1. Charleston Jazz Festival – January 20-22 – Gaillard Center

Coming up this weekend at one of Charleston’s most gorgeous (and newly renovated) venues, the annual Jazz Festival is sure to be a big hit. Enjoy a variety of performances by names such as Manhattan Transfer, Take 6, Heather Rice & Friends, and many more. 2. Localpalooza – January 22 – 1630 Meeting Street

In support of local Charleston non-profits, Localpalooza will feature live music from a variety of local artists such as David Higgins, the Rescue Blues, Haley Mae Campbell and more. Guests are invited to purchase food from a variety of vendors. All proceeds from the event will benefit local nonprofits: Race 4 Achievement, We Are Family, Charleston Animal Society, and CharlestonGOOD. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

3. Louie’s Kids Family Race Training – Mondays & Wednesdays Through April 1

For those of you who are local and looking for a fun way to train for Charleston’s most popular 10K (The Cooper River Bridge Run), consider signing up for the Louie’s Kids Race Training program. The group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from now up until race day, which is Saturday, April 1, and caters to all fitness abilities. For more information, click here.

4. Taste of Folly – January 28 – Center St. Folly Beach

Taste of Folly is a day dedicated to families. The main street on Folly beach will shut down to make way for food vendors, art vendors, kids activities, a mechanical shark, carnival games, live music and more. 5. Chase After a Cure Gala – February 4 – Gaillard Center

Yet another excuse to visit the Gaillard Center, the ninth annual Chase After a Cure Gala proceeds go toward pediatric cancer research. The theme of the party is “A Kid at Heart,” and will include youth-inspired food, entertainment and auction packages. Since its founding, Chase After a Cure has awarded more than $500,000 to the Medical University of South Carolina’s pediatric cancer research. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

No matter what the time of year, there certainly is not a shortage of things to do in Charleston, SC.
