We've all been hearing about it for months, and now it's only days away! On Monday, August 21st at approximately 2:28 PM, Charleston, SC is due to experience a total solar eclipse. Most of the event's prep thus far has revolved around where to watch it, who to watch it with, and how to avoid traffic on the day of. Another important consideration is how to protect your eyes. The bright light from the sun during an eclipse can damage a person's retina causing permanent vision impairment. Taking all precautions at your disposal is the smartest way to enjoy this once in a lifetime event on Monday.

As summer draws to a close there are still plenty of exciting events coming up that you won't want to miss! 

August 12th Farmer's Market at Marion Square. A great opportunity to sample local restaurants and pick up fresh produce from nearby farms. 

August 13th 2nd Sunday on King- Once a month, King Street closes from Calhoun to Broad. Pedestrians are free to wander the street and dine outdoors at local restaurants. 

August 16th Charleston Museum Toddler day. Hang in there parents--school is almost back in session! In the meantime, the Charleston Museum is hosting an entire day geared towards toddlers with a class on pencil box making and painting. Tickets are $6 for members and $9 for non-members. 

August 17th Aquarium After Hours 5-10pm.

The Solar Eclipse is on its way, better grab a pair of Eclipse glasses. Here are some of the events going on August 21 that you won't want to miss.

Eclipse Extravaganza at Citadel Mall, from 1-3pm. Free Admissions. This location was approved by NASA as a viewing location. The first 500 people will receive free eclipse glasses. There will be food trucks, games, entertainment for the whole family.

Solar Eclipse at Freshfields Village, from 1-4pm. Free Admissions. Freshfields Village will provide lots of family activities, music, food/food trucks and more. Only a limited number of free eclipse glasses will be give out. 

Moon Over Middleton Place, from 10am-4pm. Admissions $10-$28. This will be a perfect place to bring the family for fun with
